Worlds Away furniture was established in 1992 after its founders took a trip to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. What began as an import business eventually grew to include lighting, hand painted metal furnishings, and home decorative accessories. Today the Worlds Away furniture portfolio includes fine grasscloth upholstery, unique Lucite pieces, and rich textiles.
Hollywood Regency Style
Worlds Away is known for its modern twist of the Hollywood Regency style. The Regency period went from the 1920s – 1950s as a modernist movement in design and architecture that included bold and contrasting colors mixed with glass mirror and metal finishes. The design of this period included Chinoise lamps, floral prints, and damask upholstered chairs. Clean-lined sofas and settees were set against lush velvet drapes and ornate textile fabrics. The cultural impact of Hollywood, particularly during the Depression Era, was largely due to the luxe modernism of the Regency style.
At the height of the period (1930s – 1940s) vanities and cabinets were lacquered in bold colors and finished with glass and metal. Interior designs of this period were considered the epitome of high society style; like that seen in film productions of the era. The classic sunburst mirror is an iconic piece of the Hollywood Regency. Art Deco and Regency interior design would often overlap in the decade between the 1920s – 1930s.
Modern Interpretation
Worlds Away furniture is known for its reinterpretation of the clean lines and transitional shapes of classic Hollywood Regency and mid-century modern design. The Drayton cabinet is upholstered in gray grasscloth and antique brass pagoda hardware. The Davenport sounds like the name of a high society character in a 1930s Manhattan melodrama. Upholstered in pale gray shagreen with geometric pattern, the Davenport is a sleek four-door cabinet piece.
From their lighting collection, the best-selling antique brass finish of the Moravian star pendant can be customized as a single or set. The Moderna is a cylindrical lantern of inlaid glass with antique brass chain and canopy. The Maxwell pendant is an illusion of dimension while amplifying ambient light from its center. Framed ironwork and gold leaf surround the antique mirror centerpiece.
Worlds Away are known for their revival of etageres, free-standing and open shelves and display cases from the mid-century modern period. The etagere RIVAA SG is designed with three glass shelves and a finished cabinet with removable interior shelf. The Silas gray etagere is upholstered in a beautiful neutral tone gray grasscloth.
The table collection includes the popular Cubo S cocktail, an updated version of a Worlds Away favorite. The Cubo S is a stunning statement piece with its reverse antique mirror-panel finish, set atop a silver leaf base.
Worlds Away now offers a collection of photographic prints of icons from film and music for the residential and hospitality sectors. Prints can be framed in black or beveled mirror edge. These sleek and stylish prints are perfect for a lounge or lobby entrance. The Atlas collection is a series of beautiful gold or silver leaf geometric spheres that make beautiful accent and decor pieces.
