It’s a family business where the company and manufacturing still remain today under the family leadership. Known for its classic mid-century modern design, Thayer Coggin (TC) furnishings evoke timeless modern elegance. Each piece is hand-fabricated and made-to-order throughout the production process. TC also offers an impeccable selection of custom fabrics and wood & metal finishes.

Finally, featured in Dwell magazine, TC is regarded for their innovation in mid-century modern luxury. Many original designs were created by Director & Designer Milo Baughman (1953 – until his death in 2008); and remain highly sought after by collectors and mid-century design enthusiasts alike.

Sofa Seating

From the 1950s, Baughman’s legendary Button Up Sofa remains a TC standard. The sofa frame is constructed from kiln-dried maple, a sustainable American hardwood found in the North and South Eastern U.S. The Button Up featuresultra-plush cushioning and supportive foam fiber backing. The upholstery is double stitched with welting outlines at the back, sides, and base. From the start, the upholstery is curated by hand.

Next, the Blade Sofa; designed by Ransom Culler. It’s noted by slender leg supports, giving the illusion of the Blade suspending in air. The Blade features poly-blend down seating and leg finishes in dark bronze, polished stainless steel, or walnut veneer. Also available as the Blade Sectional Sofa.

Baughman created the Design Classic Circle Sofa Table in 1968, which became a modern modular classic. Its elliptical curve form is flush against the backside of the iconic Circle Sofa. Also available is the Design Class 1224 Circle Sectional with four modular units to mix and match.

Last, but not least, designed by Guy Hill, the Mickey Sectional is a pairing of sleek modernity with luxurious comfort. The reticulated legs are available in polished stainless steel or bronze.

The Classic Maple Cabinet comes custom; coming in any TC wood finish, with polished steel or dark bronze leg options.

Lastly, the Colours Buffet credenza is a timeless classic, custom finished in any Sherwin-Williams / Benjamin Moore semi-gloss paint; (TIP! Designer’s Mark can help you find the perfect Pantone ™ match for your selection.)

The Laid-Back Lounge Chair

“All my life I’ve pursued the perfect red. I can never get painters to mix it for me. It’s exactly as if I’d said, ‘I want Rococo with a spot of Gothic in it and a bit of Buddhist temple,’ – they have no idea what I’m talking about.” – Diane Vreeland, Vogue editor (1963 – 1971) *

The perfect red with pink undertones is exemplified in the TC upholstery of the Laid Back Lounge Chair. Originally designed in 1953 it remains a staple in the lounge seating collection today. A classic mid-century modern silhouette with generous cushioned upholstery. The Laid-Back Lounge Chair is a timeless set and work of art in itself. Also available with a matching ottoman.

The Wink is available as a bar stool or counter stool with customizable fabric or leather options. The polished stainless-steel frame is standard for both designs.

Finally, the Design Classic Dining Chair was born in 1971. Another iconic TC piece that appears to float atop its sleek frame.
